MANIFESTO

Birth works, and women inherently know how to birth. Women have every right to birth the way they choose, whether at home, in the hospital or somewhere in between. However, too often the woman's birth plan is not carried out. Instead, decisions are made for her and without informed consent, whether in chaos or just because it's the "norm." I'm here to help you to have the birth experience YOU choose.

Wherever you're planning to birth, I want to be an advocate for you and your birth plans.

What is a doula?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary Definition: a woman experienced in childbirth who provides advice, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth

My Definition: a woman who supports another woman physically, emotionally and spiritually through her pregnancy, labor and birth, as well as post-partum. She is an advocate for the mother-to-be and her birth plans and reminds her of her wishes when necessary.

Services

Birth is one of the most personal, intimate and life-altering things in a woman's life. It is crucial to trust the people who will be there to experience it with you. It is especially crucial to trust the person you hire to support you in every way.

I believe in building relationships through a deeper connection. It is important to build trust with each other by getting to know each other better. From there, I offer personal support prenatally, during labor and birth, as well as post-partum.

About

Hey, I'm Jillisa, a wife, mother, midwifery student, crossfit junky and entrepreneur. Before my daughter, I wasn't really a "kid" person. The thought of being a doula had also never crossed my mind - not once. In fact, I went to beauty school and became a licensed cosmetologist before deciding to work a corporate desk job and now ending up here. However, after getting pregnant unexpectedly, I began another unexpected journey - my journey to birth work.

I loved everything about the care I received from my traditional midwife, and what I loved most was that I was truly the center of my care. I loved the personal relationship I had built with her and enjoyed the in-home visits. This lead me to my calling to midwifery. Currently, I am enrolled in the Indie Birth Midwifery School and will graduate in 2019.

I decided I wanted to make an impact on women and families in the community as soon as possible and didn't want to wait until I was done with school and my apprenticeship. So, after much prayer and contemplation, I chose to practice as a doula for the time being. I truly believe in the power of support during pregnancy, labor, birth and post-partum and want to provide that for as many women as possible.

Testimonials

"Jillisa will make a wonderful doula for anyone who needs someone to be there as an advocate and friend during their pregnancy and post child birth, as well. Jillisa is everything a good doula should be. She is passionate. She is loyal. She is caring. She is respectful. She will stand up for the mom if she needs to make sure the mom's birthing plan is being carried out. And she is also experienced - she is a mom of a beautiful baby girl. She has been through what these expecting moms are and will be going through. Who better to be an advocate for someone than someone who has been there and understands what the mom is going through, whether it be an at-home birth or in the hospital?! She's been through both!

I personally don't have kids - I am not at that point in my life yet, but I can't even begin to count the number of discussions that we have had about pregnancy to birth to being a new mom. The love and passion she feels about this definitely shows. Anyone would be lucky to have her be there with them during this very special time."

"Jillisa is a smart, loving, dedicated woman and anyone would be so lucky to have her support as a doula through pregnancy, birth and early mothering! A doula is a must have if you are having a hospital birth, and a great asset for homebirths, too, especially for first time parents. If you are considering hiring Jillisa, do it!"

"Having Jillisa as my doula has made a lot of my current pregnancy more about the giving of life and not such a "medical issue. She has been with me from the very beginning of this pregnancy answering so many of my questions and subsiding even some of my worries More than half way through my second pregnancy and I truly never thought I would ever feel this sense of calm. I know that having Jillisa by my side through appointments so far has made a big impact. She's knowledgeable in the aspects that I have most concerns about and also mentions a lot of things that I haven't thought about. She is also someone that I know is on my side when it comes to having the birthing experience that I hope for. She's also aware that my first delivery didn't go as planned and that there were some complications with my first child. We've been able to discuss what may be options for my current birth plan for all the 'what ifs' we may encounter. I highly recommend Jillisa, not just for her talent and knowledge in being a doula, but also because she truly cares. She listens to what you want and not what should or shouldn't be done. I can't wait for her to be a part of our continuing journey through this pregnancy and for the delivery."

I know what it can be like to labor at home with no interventions, and I know what it can be like to labor and birth in the hospital with many interventions. I want to use my experiences to help support you!
